Reginald Doodledopper-Swaybuckle III

For some weird reason, humans appear to have the hardest time finding ‘Joy’ in their lives, and they look in the strangest of strange places. In the teapot, in the cookie jar, down the pub, in their shoes but never their socks! They search their bank accounts and even look in shops. I’m not sure what that’s all about. Why is it that humans never ever look in the most obvious of obvious places?

Joy can be found everywhere. Under a tree, looking up at the stars or even looking between your knees! The most obvious, and most sure to be found of all places to find joy, is in our heart!  No Sir, humans never seem to think of the obvious, only the strangest. They really are a confusing bunch!

Coddle-Poppers NEVER have to look for ‘Joy’ as it always seems to be close by at all times of the day, and night. Much like a wayward nose hair that tickles all the time, Joy is always right under our nose and very close by. Never hiding, and waiting to be unleashed upon the World.

Let me introduce you to Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle III. He might really be the 4th, 5th, or 6th, or could even be none at all! Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle just likes saying ‘the Third,’ as he has quite an odd accent and sometimes, he makes it sound like ‘turd.’ It makes him chuckle when people say his full titled name, and they end up not being not quite sure whether they have misunderstood him, or are just not pronouncing it right!

Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle III comes from a wee hamlet over the hill, just beyond the Valley of Snagglegrass, called Kneesworth.  He’s a very energetic, and bouncy little Coddle-Popper, that likes to keep appearing in different places. You can often find him behind the rock (if you meditate using the ‘How to see the Faeries’ CD), or other times, casually sitting on a branch in a tree eating an apple, swinging his little legs. Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle III’s energy, happiness and enthusiasm is as infectious as chicken pox at a children’s party or toad-booger snail dribble patties, if you have ever been fortunate enough to have them. Yes Sir… that infectious. And oh, so yummy.

Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle III was given the task of an apprentice “Finder of the Lost Joy.”  He has the most amazing ability and talent for finding the joys that have been lost… sort of like a pig that can find truffles. Coddle-Poppers are not sure whether that’s nice, but have heard that humans do like truffles, so they think it must be yet another one of their oddities, amongst many more.

Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle III comes from a long line of ‘Joy Finders.’ It’s a family tradition that has been passed down through the generations, and he is honoured to be given this audacious task, and be allowed to do the work. It’s sad when human people appear to lose their way, and forget how to have fun and really enjoy life.  It’s as if they lose their sight and cannot see the beauty in what’s around them. (Even though it really is to be found everywhere they look, in front of their very own eyes… and their friend’s eyes). Even if you have a glass eye you can still find some joy.

Humans really are confusing to the Coddle-Poppers, they seem to take a simple life and make it as difficult and hard as they possibly can, and then spend all their time complaining about it all. They do not seem to realize that things in life are done ‘for’ them, and not ‘to’ them.

When you meet Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle III, you will recognize him in an instant, as he’s such an interesting little character. Joking, laughing, almost childlike, but he always gets serious when he talks about his work. A ‘purpose’ to a Coddle Popper is a most ‘sacred’ thing, a very sacred thing indeed. Yes Sir.

No matter the weather, (or the temperature) in July, Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle III, has to stop wearing his winter clothes. But he never enjoys the transition. His Mom is always the one that makes him, as she insists his winter clothes need a good wash, even though he always feels that everything is still perfectly fine, and could go another season!

Even when wearing his summer clothes, Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle III, will still be found wearing his full-length long johns. He has a green vest with a small pocket on each side, and gold buttons up the front, not down the back… that would be silly.

Gold buttons are only allowed on those uniforms for the Coddle Poppers that have been given a ‘golden opportunity’, and are always regarded and treated with the utmost respect. He has suspenders on his brown pants, that go over the top of the vest. He likes to tuck his thumbs under the straps and pulls them out from time to time, especially when he really wants to emphasize something, which appears to be a trait that has been passed down through the Doodledopper Swaybuckle generations.

Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle III, wears brown boots that are pointy and curl up over the end of his toes.  These are part of his uniform as they are “special” joy finding boots, because sometimes you gotta ‘jiggle’ that joy around, and sometimes the joy just jiggles you around instead. (It could also be argued that they curl up because he has been wearing the same socks all winter, and his shoes are trying to escape the smell of his feet. No Sir, I think I like Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle III’s reason better, but we will never ever know for certainly sure).

Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle III was sent a very important mission. His very first of its kind. He was to help a human child by the name of ‘Sally Anne Downer.’ Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle III knew this was going to be difficult because even her initials spelled SAD. He was told that she was only 13 years old, and was having the most difficult time finding the joy in her life… and for a 13-year-old that seems to be a very odd thing indeed.

Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle III knew there was only one thing to do, and that was to go and seek out the wisest one of them all. So, he took a packed lunch, and a wet flannel to wipe his face. (Yes, even Coddle-Popper’s Mums make them do that too!). And he travelled across land and field back to his Great, Great, Great, Grandmother in Bottom Burp Brooke, across from Hoof Hearted Hollow. (A tiny Hamlet just beyond ‘The Valley of Snagglegrass’, turning left at the ‘Far’ Tea-Tree, with the definitive aroma, that’s both unique and unforgiving!).

Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle III’s Great, Great, Great, Grandmother, was the ‘Oracle on Joy’, and had helped many a sad soul to retrieve their lost Joy. (Which was never usually lost, just misplaced). She had many bags of tricks that had proven invaluable over the years. She was a kind faced Coddle-Popper, red, rosy cheeks, and a cuddle that you could get lost in for days. She always smelled of freshly baked bread, and never failed to have cookies that had just been baked in the oven, no matter what time of day, or night, you visited.

She kissed Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle III on his forehead, wet her thumb and cleaned off the remnants of his fungal crunch bark clippings from his cheeks and sat him down in the chair with a hot chocolate that had a cream and fudge topping, with a sprinkle of toad dribble on top, together with a freshly baked chocolate, caramel, and dandelion dangle-part cookie.

Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle III’s Great, Great, Great, Grandmother sat down beside him with her golden book and a treasure chest. The book is VERY special, as is the treasure chest. A white glowing light comes from the chest and the chest is said to contain all the joy and gratitude from the many grateful souls that have been helped in the past.

Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle III’s   Great, Great, Great, Grandmother reached into the chest and pulled out a bracelet, which had 5 beads placed upon it. She told Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle III that this is what he was going to take to Sally Anne Downer. It was a ‘blessings bracelet’. (Blessing bracelets have helped many times before with troubled human children). The idea is that each and everyday, when we wake up, (and also before going to bed), we tell each bead something we are grateful for, until eventually, we humans finally realize just how many blessings we already have in our lives, and how much we truly do have to be grateful for.

Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle III asked why there were 5 beads, and what if the little girl couldn’t think of 5 things that she felt blessed to have in her life?

His Great, Great, Great, Grandmother explained that ‘everyone’ can be grateful for 5 things. The morning sun, the moon, the stars, the birds and the trees. Even if the sun is missing on one day, we still know that God is there shining down on us. Every day we can ask God to show us the blessings in our life, and blessings ALWAYS bring joy. We cannot have one without the other! It’s like dark and light, where there are blessings, joy always follows.

Reginald Doodledopper Swaybuckle III felt so much relief. He knew this was a gift of knowledge that he would cherish forever. He finished his drink and cookie, and gave his Great, Great, Great, Grandmother a cuddle, that he knew would last them both until the next time.

He made his way back home, feeling the joy of knowing what a great gift he had to share with the World, which was something else he was truly grateful for.
